HOUSE VAN ROOYEN
Located in a wildlife reserve in Kimberley, this family home of three was conceived with a very clear objective: A double-storey home, employing a colour scheme that would reflect the immediate natural surroundings' palette. i.e. veld grass, soil, horizon.
This was achieved through the combined use of sandstone cladding, light coloured paint, natural anodized aluminium for all fenestration and a wattle pergola.
As owners of the reserve, additional parking and cottages in the vicinity of the home were also erected for the sake of accommodating guests to the reserve.
Due to the temperature extremities experienced in the Northern Cape, necessary interventions were incorporated in the design to allow for comfortable indoor and outdoor living, in both extreme heat and extreme cold.
Game and sunset viewing from the balconies form an integral part of everyday life for the family.
